Parade Participant Rules and Safety Information

Arrival & Entry Instructions

  • IMPORTANT: Registered Parade Vehicles to Enter Mail Coach Road via Pearse Road ONLY,
    beside Christies Filling Station: Strictly no other vehicles allowed on Mail Coach Road.

  • All entries will be given:
    • An allotted ingress time
    • A designated holding area on Mail Coach Road

These details will be emailed to participants during the week before 17th March.

  • On arrival, Volunteer Stewards and Gardaí will be present to assist.
    Please:

    • Be patient
    • Follow steward and Garda instructions at all times
  • There is a predetermined order of flow for the parade this year.
    This cannot be changed on the day.

Parade Route Information

  • Emergency Area / Lost & Found (Children):
    Tourist Office, top of O’Connell Street
  • Quiet Zone:
    Lower Quay Street

    • No noise from bands, speakers, vehicles, or participants
    • Signage and stewards will mark this area
    • Please nominate one person in your group to remind participants to remain quiet
  • Accessible Viewing Areas:
    • O’Connell Street
    • Teeling Street
  • Maintain a minimum 10-metre gap between entries.
  • Keep the parade moving at all times.
  • 2 minutes maximum for Performances at Judges Podium

Vehicle & Float Regulations

  • 2 people required in each vehicle, both capable of driving.
  • Maximum of 2 vehicles per entry/business.
  • Extra care required:
    • At turns
    • On narrow sections of the route
  • Large vehicles/long trucks must bring:
    • 2 additional volunteers
    • One walking in front
    • One walking behind
    • Volunteers must communicate with the driver when necessary

  • Height: 4.65m
  • Width: 2.9m
  • Length: 8.2m

Insurance Requirements

Participants must provide proof of Public Liability Insurance.

The following must be specifically named as indemnified parties on the policy:

  • St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee Sligo
  • Sligo County Council

Insurance must cover any damages, injuries, or legal costs.

Parade Conduct Rules

  • No flyers to be distributed.
  • No consumables to be handed out to the crowd.
  • Absolutely no throwing of items.
  • Maintain safe spacing throughout.
  • Follow steward instructions at all times.

End of Parade Instructions

  • The parade ends on Pearse Road, beyond the Mercy Primary School junction.
  • Continue moving to this point before dispersing.

After finishing, you may disperse:

  • Onto St Brigid’s Terrace
  • Up Pearse Road
  • Towards Mercy Secondary School on Chapel Hill

⚠️ Do not block the road at any point after finishing.
