The parade includes tapestry (floats) and bands. Unlike America, the floats are more dancers dressed in expressive intricate costumes of fantasy-like creatures. The parade is about 2-hours long and the parade route is VERY crowded. No need to bring chairs, as you will stand the entire time.

Great Day Out. Attended St Patrick’s Day parade 2026 For one day Sligo gives itself over to a celebration of all things Ireland. Food, music, art and general craic (defn: having as much fun as one can in a public setting). The parade is a creative, musical extravaganza of Irishness that gets packed with people from all over the world. And you need to prepare for that rather than turn up and hope for the best. Then enjoy the madness and come back again.
